About Me

This blog is new, and hopefully over time will be more active.

I have just turned 30, and feel as if I am in my 50s. My list of medical issues is long, but here are the main ones:

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (a connective tissue disorder affecting the collagen in the body; causes systemic problems, including but not limited to dislocations, stretchy and/or velvety skin, hyperextending joints, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, gut issues, etc.)

Sjogren’s Syndrome (an autoimmune disorder affecting the moisture glands in the body)

Herniated discs (so far two, still awaiting MRIs for the rest of my back and neck.)

Vocal Cord Dysfunction (vocal cords don’t work as well as they should; kind of ‘lazy’ and makes the voice sound monotone and low.)

PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)

Sleep Apnea

High blood pressure; heart palpitations

hypersensitive skin

Cerebellar Ectopia (Possible Chiari Malformation)

Not-yet identified thyroid issue

Most of these things have secondary issues to them. I was diagnosed with EDS just a few ago, and things snowballed from there. I now own a wheelchair, walker, cane, braces, and a permanent handicap placard, though I haven’t had to use all of them yet, and only use them when needed.

One thing to note, in EDS, our collagen is faulty. It breaks down and our skin, organs, joints, ligaments, etc., can stretch beyond normal limits. When the average person ages, their collagen also breaks down. In essence, those with EDS start the aging process decades earlier than most, normally around mid-twenties, mid-thirties or after childbirth. To read more about EDS, see the links page.
